Celebrating Excellence: Highlights from the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards
The 78th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) took place on February 16, 2025, at London's Royal Festival Hall, celebrating the finest cinematic achievements of the past year. Hosted by David Tennant, the ceremony was marked by notable surprises and a diverse array of winners.
Top Honours
"Conclave," directed by Edward Berger, emerged as a significant winner, securing four awards, including Best Film and Outstanding British Film. The film also received accolades for Best Adapted Screenplay and Editing. Brady Corbet's "The Brutalist" matched this achievement with four awards of its own, notably Best Director for Corbet and Best Leading Actor for Adrien Brody. The film was also recognized for its Cinematography and Original Score.
Acting Awards
Mikey Madison clinched the Best Leading Actress award for her role in "Anora," surpassing the anticipated favourite, Demi Moore, who was nominated for "The Substance." Kieran Culkin was honoured as Best Supporting Actor for "A Real Pain," while Zoe Saldaña received Best Supporting Actress for her performance in "Emilia Pérez."
Notable Wins
The beloved duo Wallace and Gromit made a triumphant return with "Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl," winning Best Animated Film and the inaugural Best Children's & Family Film award. "Emilia Pérez" was recognized as the Best Film Not in the English Language, and "Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story" took home the Best Documentary award.
Rising Star
The EE Rising Star Award, the only category voted for by the public, was awarded to David Jonsson, acknowledging his impressive emergence in the film industry.
Special Recognitions
Veteran actor Warwick Davis was honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship for his outstanding contribution to cinema, while the charity MediCinema received the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award for its work bringing the magic of film to hospital patients.
